According to a confidential report seen by Reuters, India’s antitrust regulator has found that Apple exploited its dominant position in the iOS app market, engaging in “abusive conduct and practices.” The Competition Commission of India (CCI) has been investigating Apple since 2021 for potentially abusing its market dominance by forcing developers to use its proprietary in-app purchase system.
Apple denies any wrongdoing, claiming it has a small market share in India where Android phones dominate. The CCI’s report highlights Apple’s significant influence over how digital products and services reach consumers, particularly through its iOS platform and App Store. The investigation is ongoing, and potential outcomes could include monetary fines or directives to change business practices12.
