Pinglu Canal in south China's Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region officially opened to navigation on Wednesday.
The 134.2-kilometer canal is designed to fast connect China's inner regions in the southwest with the sea. It is China's first major river-to-sea canal project that has been planned and coordinated at the national level since 1949.
