The unveiling ceremony of Chengdu Media Industry Group Co Ltd and the groundbreaking ceremony of NBD Center was officially held on March 22, 2024. 

With China's leading financial media agency National Business Daily as the "chain master", NBD Center aims to attract leading enterprises in financial news reporting, cultural creativity-related finance, smart technology and other areas, with the ambition to become a landmark of modern culture and creativity showcasing the intersection of digital media and fashion art. 

Describing the NBD Center as a groundbreaking endeavor, John Howkins, a famous British expert on creative and cultural industries and "the father of creative economy", said, "It is a wonderful demonstration of Chengdu's creative strengths, and how Chengdu's creative people can contribute on a global scale," stressing its significance in showcasing Chengdu's creative potentials globally. 

NBD Center, "a model for the future"

Globally, major media centers like CNN Center in downtown Atlanta has captivated locals and visitors alike for decades, fostering a diverse array of businesses. Its tenants include AT&T Store, Wells Fargo Bank and a number of fast food chains like Arby's, Subway and etc.

In a move to promote the urban development, Chengdu Media Industry Group is accelerating the construction of three cultural creativity projects - NBD Center, Chengdu Smart Media City and Bailu Bay Hi-Tech Park.

NBD Center is committed to fostering the symbiotic development of media, industry, business and city.

From John Howkins' perspective, the ambitious vision will differentiate NBD Center from its global counterparts. "The NBD Center is a new kind of building," said Howkins. "It is a model for the future. CNN Center and Times Center were designed for their owner's internal uses many years ago and then redesigned to allow some public use."

Upon completion, the Center will house the NBD Smart Media Center as well as an international cultural creativity roadshow center and a financial big data center, and an international fashion center. 

"NBD Center represents a new and exciting model. It is more ambitious and takes account of many new trends. It is sensitive to the site, and the local environment, and to Chengdu and all China. It symbolizes the best of new creative economy." Howkins reckoned.

NBD Center symbolizes Chengdu's vision of creative economy

Situated within the Chengdu Jiaozi Park Financial Business District, NBD Center boasts a total construction area of approximately 180,000 square meters and a total investment of about 2.24 billion yuan, expected to be put into use in early 2027.

NBD Center is committed to forging a modern cultural creativity ecosystem integrating the development of culture, commerce, tourism and sports, building itself a new modern cultural innovation landmark blending digital media with fashion art.

In Howkins' view, NBD Center demonstrates the strength and vision of Chengdu's creative economy.

The architects had the task of satisfying all these demands and also creating a building that is beautiful and which people will want to visit. And they have succeeded in every way. The Center is ambitious. It is a wonderful demonstration of Chengdu's creative strengths, and how Chengdu's creative people can contribute on a global scale," Howkins said.
