On April 17th, the topic "#Contemporary Amperex Technology Co Limited (CATL)'s sodium-ion battery to debut on Chery vehicle" ranked top on National Business Daily's trending list.

A day ago, according to the official WeChat account of CATL, the company's sodium-ion battery will be first debuted on Chery's vehicle, and Chery will cooperate with CATL to launch battery brand "ENER-Q".

In March of this year, at CATL's 2022 performance briefing, Jiang Li, the company's vice president and board secretary, said, "The company's sodium-ion battery will be industrialized in 2023, and product performance will continue to be upgraded. The first-generation sodium-ion battery released by the company can be applied to various electrification scenarios (including two-wheelers), delivering outstanding advantages especially in high-altitude areas, and can also flexibly adapt to the application needs of the entire energy storage field.

At the same time, the company has developed the A/B battery system solution, which mixes sodium-ion and lithium-ion batteries, not only making up for the sodium-ion batteries' shortage in energy density, but also giving fully play to the advantages of high power and good low-temperature performance, Jiang added. Through the solution, the sodium-ion batteries could be fitted in vehicles with a range of around 500km.

The single-cell energy density of CATL's first-generation sodium-ion battery is 160Wh/kg. It can be charged to over 80% in 15 minutes at room temperature. The company aims to increase the energy density of the next-generation sodium-ion batteries to above 200Wh/kg.

CATL's zero-carbon strategy conference will be held on April 18th.
