Mar. 5 (NBD) -- U.S. electric vehicle and clean energy company Tesla (NASDAQ: TSLA) has started recruitment for its solar roof deployment in China since this Tuesday.
Through Tesla's recruiting site on WeChat, National Business Daily (NBD) found that the company is hiring talents to take charge of projects related to grid-side photovoltaic (PV) energy storage. It's noticed that the job location is the EV maker's Gigafactory in Shanghai.
This came about one month after Tesla CEO Elon Musk said, in a series of tweets, installations of the company's solar tile roofs were ramped up in the San Francisco Bay area in the U.S. and the business would be extended to Europe and China. New positions offered now appear to be preparation for that.
Called "the Solar Roof", the Tesla product starts at 5.6 U.S. dollars per square foot or 2.11 U.S. dollars per watt in the U.S., according to the company's website.
It's reported that the latest version of the Solar Roof launched last fall uses Chinese cells. For the commercial and residential rooftop business, Tesla has several PV module suppliers including China-based Changzhou Almaden (002623.SZ) and Chint Power Systems.
NBD noticed that news emerged late February, saying that Tesla and Panasonic would end their joint PV cell production. Panasonic-made solar cells were supposed to be incorporated into Tesla's Solar Roof.
