Jan. 3 (NBD) -- Chinese cartoon-focused video sharing website Bilibili (Nasdaq: BILI) on Thursday announced its partnership with QQ Music under online music giant Tencent Music Entertainment ("TME", NYSE: TME).
Share prices of Bilibili popped 12.51 percent on the day, the highest during the 12-month period.
National Business Daily (NBD) noticed that prior to the new tie-up, Bilibili held its first countdown gala on December 31, which attracted up to 80 million online viewers and 845,000 bullet comments while live streaming and won wide praise on social media platforms.
The New Year's gala as well as the collaboration with QQ Music are part of Bilibili's moves to broaden itself beyond the anime, comic, and game (ACG) content.
Under the partnership, Bilibili and QQ Music will share musicians and music contents resources and jointly create new music contents including online events, remixes of popular songs and live performances.
"On the one hand, Bilibili is home to a large number of talented music creators, as well as music lovers who are keen on secondary creation. They brought more high-quality music works to the video platform. On the other hand, QQ Music has rich experience in operation of music copyright, album release and promotion of musicians," said Li Ni, COO of Bilibili.
As an emerging online original music community, Bilibili now has over 500,000 music creators producing an average of more than 1,000 songs every month. Videos in the music section received a total of over 2.2 billion views and 320 million bullet comments. In addition, Bilibili launched a series of plans to support outstanding music content creators.
