June 19 (NBD) -- Chinese home appliance manufacturer Midea Group Co Ltd (000333.SZ) recently demonstrated the two key links of its smart manufacturing - robotics-based manufacturing and smart warehousing - to the public for the first time.

According to a person-in-charge with the company, Kuka AG, the German robot maker acquired by Midea, is eyeing the first spot in the Chinese robot market.

Kuka's new robot factory in the city of Shunde, southern China's Guangdong province, will come on stream in the fourth quarter of this year, with its annual production capacity set to hit 75,000 robots by 2024.

In July, the robot maker's second robot plant in Shanghai will go into production, expected to push up its annual capacity in the modern city to 25,000 units.

This means Kuka would be able to produce up to 100,000 robots a year by 2024.
