June 8 (NBD) -- Chinese electric vehicle manufacturer BYD's monorail project in Hengyang, central China's Hunan province, has been called off by the National Development and Reform Commission (NDRC), Caixin reported Thursday.

Called SkyRail and known as a demonstrative tourism line, the project was kicked off on December 10, 2017, but was soon put on hold at the end of that year, a person close to the Development and Reform Commission of Hunan Province told Caixin. There is no sign of resumption of construction work yet.

According to the person, the project is halted because the developer failed to follow the necessary approval procedures.
