Hong Kong, Aug. 24 (NBD) -- Southwest China's Chengdu, capital of Sichuan province, has a chance to become the film center of western China.

Mr. Wellington Fung, Assistant Head of CreateHK and Secretary-General of the Film Development Council, made the remarks in an interview with NBD before the opening of the Promotion Conference of Chengdu Building a Cultural Creativity Center in Western China, a part of the ongoing Sichuan-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation Week in Hong Kong.

The film sector constitutes an important part of the cultural creativity industry, and is of significant importance to Chengdu, which mulls the building of the western China cultural creativity center.

China has a great population and vast land. Different regions has their own cultural characteristics, so should the film culture, he explained.

Fung added that there can be many film centers, but it would be better to first figure out how big the market of regional city clusters is and whether cities included have unique cultural features. Moreover, cities should strengthen cooperation with each other to achieve greater results.
