Amid the vehicle sales slowdown, the China Automobile Dealers Association (CADA) is calling for the re-launch of the "cars to the countryside" policy.
Data shows that China's vehicle sales only edged up 0.23 percent to 2,519,500 units in January and slipped 0.9 percent to 1,581,000 cars in February.
Lang Xuehong, deputy secretary-general of the CADA, said that the "cars to the countryside" policy is expected to activate the rural market, boost used car sales, and promote the development of automotive finance.
Nevertheless, a senior executive with one listed automotive company said that the policy will indeed give a boost to car deliveries in the short term, but will likely make an impact on the long-term and healthy development of the automotive industry.
Facing the complicated environment, the industry should shift its focus from sales to structural adjustment, as electrification, intelligentization, and lightweight construction are gaining traction, the executive added.
