CHENGDU, Feb. 22 (NBD) -- Huawei is testing an autonomous vehicle at Manka Science and Technology Park in secret.

Unimpressive on the outside, the car comes with a four-wheel-drive system and features automatic pedestrian avoidance, obstacle bypassing, and park assist.

According to an industry source, the ICT solution provider is studying the autonomous vehicle project, and is reinforcing its ties with Tsinghua University on technology development.

Campus recruitment in late 2016 also indicated that Huawei has a long-term plan for the automotive sector.

Growing evidence show that the company will eventually set foot in vehicle manufacturing. But no tech firm has ever obtained car manufacturing qualification in China up to now.
