China’s humanoid robotics sector is showing strong growth, marked by a massive order for industry leader UBTECH and the government's formal move to establish standardization.

UBTECH Robotics, often called the "first stock in humanoid robotics," announced a significant contract win on Monday: a 264 million yuan (approx. $37 million USD) project in Guangxi for a humanoid robot data center and AI education program. The project will utilize the latest Walker S2 industrial humanoid robot for roles at border ports and industrial facility inspections.

This latest deal pushes UBTECH's total orders for its Walker series humanoid robots in 2025 to 1.1 billion yuan, underlining the company's success in commercializing the technology. Further reflecting market confidence, the company was recently included in the MSCI China Index, with its stock seeing intense trading volume of 3.1 billion HKD on November 24th.

In parallel with commercial advances, the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) is formalizing industry guidelines. The MIIT published the proposed members for the Humanoid Robot Standardization Technical Committee, beginning a public consultation period.

The proposed leadership includes two key figures from the next generation of robotics innovators as Vice Chairmen: Wang Xingxing, founder of Unitree Robotics (known for quadruped robots), and Peng Zhihui, founder of AgiBot.
