Zhipu AI has launched AutoGLM 2.0, defining it as the world’s first true mobile agent. Unlike traditional on-device AI assistants, AutoGLM 2.0 uses a cloud-based "cloud phone" to perform tasks. This means it operates without using your device's resources, allowing you to use your phone for other things while the agent works in the background.
AutoGLM 2.0 can follow simple commands to complete complex, multi-step tasks across more than 40 popular apps, including Douyin, Meituan, and JD.com. It can order food, book flights, or even draft content for social media and presentations—all while you use your phone for something else.
A reporter from National Business Daily (NBD) experienced this firsthand, instructing AutoGLM 2.0 to order bubble tea on the Meituan app. The entire process—from opening the app and searching for the store to selecting the item and proceeding to checkout—was completed autonomously in about a minute. The user's phone was free for other activities, like watching videos or playing games, while the agent worked in the background.
The product is powered by Zhipu's latest open-source models, GLM-4.5 and GLM-4.5V, making it a fully domestic solution with significantly lower costs.
While the initial hype around AI agents has cooled, Zhipu's launch aims to create a "super portal" for agents in China. However, the long-term success of domestic agents depends on solving challenges in stability, user adoption, and monetization. The ability to balance cutting-edge technology with practical business models will be the key to shaping the future of this industry.
