Non-Tesla owners in China will be able to use Tesla charging stations.

On April 25, Tesla announced that it is opening charging stations to some non-Tesla new energy vehicles in China's mainland. The first batch of charging stations involved in the trial program includes 10 supercharging stations and 120 destination charging stations, supporting 37 models.

The 10 Tesla supercharging stations are located in the areas where new energy vehicles gather, such as business districts and shopping centers in Beijing and Shanghai. Owners could experience the new service through the Tesla App.

Tesla said that the trial will cover a larger part of Tesla charging network and expand the service to more brands and models.

The Tesla supercharging station open plan has been launched for about a year and a half. According to official information from Tesla, since November 2021 when Tesla launched a supercharging station open pilot plan worldwide, non-Tesla vehicle users in 18 countries and regions including China's mainland can enjoy this service.

Tesla CEO Elon Musk once said, "Opening the charging network to non-Tesla vehicles can encourage more car owners to use electric cars, which provides support for our mission to promote new energy."

The construction of shareable infrastructure is a trend in the development of the charging pile industry. Tesla's first supercharging station in China was built in Shanghai in 2014. As of the end of April 2023, Tesla has deployed more than 1,600 supercharging stations and more than 10,000 supercharging piles in China's mainland, as well as more than 700 destination charging stations and more than 2,000 destination charging piles, covering all provincial capitals and municipalities in China. In large cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, and Shenzhen, where the number of new energy vehicles is rapidly increasing, a "15-minute charging circle" has been basically established.
