April 3 (NBD) -- Large cylinder batteries will become an important part of the high-quality development of the new energy vehicle industry chain, which are expected to be used on a large scale from 2026 and become a standard configuration by 2030, said Fan Wenguang, vice president of BAK Battery at China EV 100 Forum (2023) on Sunday.

It is noticed that in 2022, global electric vehicle sales totaled 7.8 million units, up 68 percent year on year, with the market share approaching 10 percent for the first time. "By 2035, electric vehicles will account for more than 50 percent of global vehicle sales," which means that electric vehicles will gradually penetrate into the hinterland market of gas-powered vehicles, becoming the first car purchased by consumers and the main model of the family, Fan said.

However, to completely replace petrol-powered cars, electric vehicles must be at least as good as petrol-powered cars on key metrics.

In fact, in recent years, the development of large cylinder power batteries developed rapidly. Up to now, at least 10 global electric power battery manufacturers and 13 automotive companies are developing large-cylinder batteries, including Panasonic, LG, CATL, Bak battery, NIO, Tesla, General Motors, BMW, and JAC Motors.

For the development trend of lithium carbonate raw material prices, Fan Wenguang predicted that by the end of this year, the price of a ton of lithium carbonate raw material will be around 150,000 yuan.
