March 30 (NBD) --- The rapid development of artificial intelligence has raised concerns among technology circles.
Elon Musk and a group of artificial intelligence experts and industry executives are calling for a six-month pause in developing systems more powerful than OpenAI's newly launched GPT-4, in an open letter citing potential risks to society.
Zhou Hongyi, founder of 360 security company, thinks they are overconcerned. On March 30, Zhou stated on Weibo: "Yesterday Musk called for a halt to the development of GPT-5. I am running a security company myself, but I firmly believe that not developing the technology is the biggest insecurity."
"Whether you like it or not, GPT will lead a new industrial revolution, with significance way beyond the invention of the Internet and the iPhone. It will bring a significant increase in productivity and then improve national competitiveness. China must catch up," Zhou Hongyi said.
He mentioned that artificial intelligence has been developing at an alarming speed. "I have always predicted that versions GPT-6 to GPT-8 will produce real consciousness and even evolve into a new species," added Zhou.
