Chongqing, a dynamic metropolis in China's southwest, saw growing trade through railway with European cities in 2019.

China-Europe freight trains to and from Chongqing have made more than 1,500 trips last year, with the number of containers and cargo value surging 48 percent respectively, Chongqing mayor Tang Liangzhi said.

"Besides laptops, more high value-added goods including liquid-crystal display panels and integrated circuits were transported by China-Europe trains to meet the diversified demands of customers," said Qi Dan, general manager of the Yuxinou (Chongqing) Logistics Co., Ltd.

According to the annual government work report of Chongqing, the city will expand sources of goods, launch train services for imported automobiles and cold-chain goods and strengthen international law enforcement cooperation to ensure China-Europe train security in 2020.

The China-Europe rail service is considered a significant part of the Belt and Road Initiative. It is expected to boost trade between China and Europe.

Chongqing started rail cargo service to Duisburg, Germany, in 2011. So far, the freight trains between Chongqing and Europe have made more than 4,500 trips.
