Hong Kong, Aug. 24 (NBD) -- The Promotion Conference of Chengdu Building a Cultural Creativity Center in Western China in Sichuan-Hong Kong-Macao Cooperation Week was held in Hong Kong, and Chengdu was awarded "Member City of World Cities Culture Forum (WCCF)." "Chengdu's joining will promote the development of the world cultural exchange and the global cultural creativity industry," said Conor Roche, the Special Representative of the President of World Cities Culture Forum.

It is noted that the World Cities Cultural Forum, which was originally set up in 2012 by world famous cultural cities including London, New York, Tokyo, Hong Kong, Shanghai, is a global leader in the field of world city culture and has 33 member cities around the world. The forum also proposes a goal that member cities jointly develop into the world city culture leading cities and member cities have made the commitment to enhance the cultural development and promote city's reputation through policies.

As a new member city of WCCF, Chengdu undoubtedly has its unique cultural deposits. Chengdu has a 4500-year history of civilization and it has been more than 2300 years since the city was established. Chengdu is known as the "land of abundance" and "a city that you don't want to leave when you come." Chengdu's tradition such as Sichuan Opera, Sichuan Embroidery and Covered Tea still continues and the culture of Three Kingdoms, the Ancient Shu and giant panda are well-known at home and abroad. 

Chengdu is on the way of promoting Tianfu culture and building the famous world cultural city, "which is in line with the purpose of WCCF." said Roche, "Chengdu will develop into a remarkable world cultural city."

In the member city list of WCCF, Chengdu is the fifth new member city in China, following Hong Kong, Shanghai, Shenzhen and Taipei, and also the first member city from western China. 

According to Roche, Belt and Road and City Culture Development Forum will be held in Chengdu in 2018, and Chengdu along with other cities across the world will discuss together about the development of the city culture.
