CHENGDU, Feb. 27 (NBD) -- Beijing will start using fuel compliant with the city's VI emissions standard on March 1.

Sinopec's oil depot and all of its 562 gas stations in the city have already completed the fuel quality upgrade.

According to Beijing's environmental protection agency, the switch to the higher-level standard will help reduce particulate matter (PM) emissions of gasoline-powered vehicles in use by up to 10 percent and non-methane organic gas and nitrogen oxides emissions by 8-12 percent.

PM emissions of diesel-driven vehicles in use will be cut by 9.1 percent, while nitrogen oxides discharge will be slashed by 4.6 percent.
