CHENGDU, Feb. 23 (NBD) -- An offcial from South China's Shenzhen urged the city to follow in Hong Kong's footsteps to build comprehensive transportation system featuring modernization, internationalization and integration.

Speaking at a conference on transportation, Liu Qingsheng, Member of CPC Shenzhen Standing Committee, stressed that quality is a key point in urban transportation construction.

Last year, Shenzhen Port completed the cargo throughput of 210 million tons, the container throughput of 23.98 million TEUs. Shenzhen Airport witnessed 41.98 million passengers, the city's public transport traffic transferred 3.54 billion passengers, the city also completed an investment of 30.58 billion yuan (4.45 billion US dollars) in transport infrastructure construction.

In 2017, Shenzhen will promote the planning and construction of Shenzhen airport's third runway, T3 satellite hall and T4 terminal hall. It will encourage and guild airline companies to open new international routes and support the base airlines to grow bigger and stronger, the city will also increase direct flights between Shenzhen and countries along the "Belt and Road".
