CHENGDU, Feb. 14 (NBD) -- Baidu Ventures, an investment unit focused on artificial intelligence, virtual reality and augment reality, announced on Tuesday its first project, a New Zealand-headquartered AI startup named 8i. The company has joined a series B funding round for 27 million US dollars in 8i. 

Led by Time Warner Investment, other participants of the round are Baidu Ventures, New York-based Hearst Ventures and Verizon Ventures, Sydney-based OneVentures, Los Angeles-based Seen & Speed Ventures and some existing investors. 

Established in 2014, 8i specializes in 3D imaging technology in VR, AR and MR fields, and has secured a series A funding round for 13.5 million US dollars.
