CHEGNDU, Jan. 26 (NBD) -- “New year, new dresses”, it is the Chinese people’s tradition to dress up in celebration of the Spring Festival. In southwest China’s Chengdu city, capital of Sichuan province, the panda-themed metro train follows the chic with new-look debut on Tuesday.

Apart from its usual interior featured panda motifs, including handles shaped like panda heads, poles painted to resemble bamboo and footprints on the floor, this time, the painted panda wears new red cotton-padded jacket, red scarf and surrounded by lion dancing performance as well as temple fair, the strong Chinese lunar new year customs matched the atmosphere.

The panda-themed train of Line 3 marked the start of passenger service on the fourth line of the Chengdu metro on July 31. It is the only of its kind nationwide.  Line 3 serves the city’s zoo, home to the Chengdu Giant Panda Base.

The idea of decorating the panda-themed train was initiated on Dec. 8, the creative design of students from Chengdu Technician College finally triumphs the one-and-a-half competition and adopted by the organizer.
