CHENGDU, Dec. 26 (NBD) -- China's draft e-commerce law was submitted for the first reading at the bimonthly session of the National People's Congress (NPC) Standing Committee on Sunday.

Rights protection drew the most attention among lawmakers.

Fu Ying, member of the NPC Standing Committee, said that protecting consumer rights must be the primary goal of the law. Honesty should be put at the core of the regulation.

Two other members, Mo Wenxiu and Yin Zhongqing, called for protection of legal interests of e-commerce operators as they are at a disadvantageous position compared with third-party e-commerce platforms.

Furthermore, multiple lawmakers proposed to amend provisions about supervision over third-party platforms and the platforms' liability to pay indemnity in advance.
