According to Hugging Face, 41% of large model downloads on its platform over the past year came from China-developed models, highlighting the country’s rapid rise in open-source AI.

China’s models have now exceeded 10 billion global downloads, with the country holding 60% of worldwide AI patent filings. With over 6,200 AI firms and a core industry surpassing 1.2 trillion yuan in 2025, China is emerging as a major engine of global AI innovation.
