The global market is about to welcome “AI Month”: from local time May 13th to June 10th, developers and investors in the AI field will witness a series of important events.

Next, let’s take a look at the major AI events in the coming month that you won’t want to miss.

May 13th: OpenAI will live stream a demonstration of updates to ChatGPT and GPT-4, but will not release GPT-5

The spring update event by OpenAI is set to commence at 10 AM Pacific Time on May 13th (which is 1 AM Beijing Time on May 14th) and will be broadcasted live on their website.

OpenAI has mentioned on their site that the event will showcase certain updates to ChatGPT and GPT-4. However, beyond these announcements, the company has not specified what changes or updates the AI chatbot and GPT-4 will undergo.

It is anticipated that OpenAI will also introduce their recently launched Media Manager tool, which allows content creators to inform OpenAI of their ownership rights, thereby preventing their content from being used to train AI models.

OpenAI’s large language model, GPT-4, has been available for over a year, and there is anticipation for their next-generation large language model, GPT-5. However, according to OpenAI’s official statement on their website, GPT-5 will not be part of the event next Monday.

The company’s CEO, Sam Altman, has quashed rumors of an imminent GPT-5 release, stating on X that there will not be a new generation of large language models, nor will there be a search engine. Nevertheless, even without GPT-5 and a search engine, the updates to ChatGPT and GPT-4 that OpenAI will demonstrate this week are expected to include many upgrades and improvements. Sam Altman expressed in a tweet his belief that everyone will like these new developments.

Currently, the session catalog for the Microsoft Build Developer Conference lists a total of 470 sessions. Filtering for “AI” yields 274 sessions, while searching for “Copilot” results in 137 sessions. It is evident that, alongside AI, Copilot will be one of the key topics at this year’s Microsoft Build Developer Conference.

Media reports indicate that the conference will discuss the new Copilot experience in Visual Studio 2022, as Microsoft has recently announced the integration of AI technology into the development environment as a single package. Previously, these functionalities were provided through two separate extensions: GitHub Copilot and GitHub Copilot Chat.

Microsoft states in the Build conference description: “We will showcase new features that allow users to engage more deeply with their digital life in Windows through advanced AI capabilities.”

May 22nd, NVIDIA is expected to release its first-quarter earnings report

Following a rebound that began after April 19th, NVIDIA’s stock price has risen by 15% as of the close of the U.S. stock market on May 10th. The company’s major clients, including Meta, Microsoft, Amazon, and Alphabet, have indicated that they will maintain or increase their capital expenditures this year.

The market widely anticipates further growth in NVIDIA’s revenue and profits. Goldman Sachs shares this optimistic sentiment, having raised NVIDIA’s target price to $1,100 per share on May 8th while maintaining a “buy” rating. Goldman Sachs notes that NVIDIA’s rapid growth rate and the sustainability of this trend in the coming years make its stock valuation attractive compared to its peers. The bank also points out that positive adjustments in earnings per share are likely to drive another increase in the stock’s value.

Several factors support the optimistic outlook for NVIDIA, including a forecast that the company’s revenue could reach $110 billion by 2025, with an average annual profit growth rate of 8% between 2025 and 2027. The data center division, with flagship products like the Opper, Ampere, and Grace-Hopper accelerators, is expected to contribute more than half of NVIDIA’s total revenue, underpinning profit growth.

Additionally, NVIDIA aims to diversify its revenue streams through strategic investment in the UK-based autonomous driving startup, Wayve Technologies. With the global AI GPU market size projected to soar to $800 billion by 2032, this outlook undoubtedly fuels sentiment in the market.

Apple is anticipated to introduce an upgraded Siri voice assistant that incorporates a new generative AI system, enabling more functionality and supporting continuous dialogue. According to insiders cited by foreign media, Apple does not intend to launch a chatbot to compete directly with ChatGPT. Instead, the goal is to improve Siri to better serve users with tasks such as setting timers and creating schedules.

Apple’s AI strategy is considered with a long-term perspective: beyond its own AI applications, Apple aims to provide a larger platform for developers and users, allowing them to profit more effectively.

Ben Reitzes, head of Melius Research, a Wall Street consulting firm, suggests that Apple may launch a completely new AI app store at WWDC24. This store is expected to include AI applications provided by various vendors. Reitzes predicts that Apple will detail how to purchase AI applications from the App Store during the conference, and the new AI app store will also feature exclusive apps, an AI assistant, and an upgraded version of Siri.
