On March 13th, NIO is reportedly offering free mobile phones for car buyers. NIO’s official customer service confirmed that customers who pay a deposit before March 31, 2024, and purchase a 2024 model will receive a 6,498 yuan voucher for a NIO phone. The NIO Phone Performance Edition is priced at 6,499 yuan, the Flagship Edition at 6,899 yuan, and the EP Edition at 7,499 yuan. Therefore, purchasing the NIO Phone Performance Edition would only require an additional payment of 1 yuan.

At the NIO IN 2023 Innovation and Technology Day, the NIO Phone was officially unveiled.

It is equipped with the leading Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 processor, with options up to 16GB+1TB memory; it runs on NIO’s Sky UI system, which is based on the Android operating system; it has no system software or commercial pre-installs; and boasts a maximum battery life of 5200mAh, supporting 66W wired fast charging and 50W wireless fast charging.

According to Li, the launch of the phone will enhance the competitiveness of their cars, with plans to deliver the phone products by late September.

As reported by The Beijing News, when asked why NIO decided to make a phone, Li stated that it wasn’t because phone companies are making cars, nor because NIO isn’t profitable from making cars and needs to profit from phones. Instead, it’s because NIO users need a phone that seamlessly connects with their NIO cars.

According to NIO’s official WeChat account, the NIO Phone recently won the 2024 German iF Design Award (iF DESIGN AWARD). The jury sees the NIO Phone not just as a mobile device but as a tool that constantly connects NIO users with their cars.

NIO delivered 10,055 new cars in January 2024, an 18.2% increase year-over-year. To date, NIO has cumulatively delivered 459,649 new cars.
