March 13 (NBD) -- The 95th Academy Awards ceremony was held in Hollywood, Los Angeles on March 13 local time, with Everything Everywhere All at Once being the biggest surprise of the night, bringing home seven Oscars, including Best Picture, Best Director and three acting prizes.
Michelle Yeoh becomes the first Chinese descent to win the best actress Oscar for her role as a mother and laundromat manager Evelyn Wang, who stumbles across a “multiverse” of alternative realities to defeat evil and save her daughter.
As a low-budget production, Everything Everywhere All at Once was released in North America on March 25 2022 and initially screened on a small scale. Thanks to its directors the Russo brothers, the movie later made its way into mainstream cinemas, gaining wide popularity.
Yeoh defeated strong competition for the award, including Cate Blanchett for Tár and Michelle Williams for The Fabelmans.
Chinese movie maker H.Brothers (300027. SZ) holds the rights to the movie in the Chinese market, which means that any cinemas or streaming services in China wishing to show the movie need to acquire the rights from Huayi Brothers, learned NBD from the movie maker previously.
According to H.Brothers' semi-annual report for 2022, the movie was scheduled to be released within the year. But as of press time, there has no further news on the release date.
Since November of last year, H.Brothers' stock has been seeing a rebound, with a cumulative increase of over 35%. Could the news of Everything Everywhere All at Once's success further boost the stock prices of the company?
