Feb.2 (NBD) -- Wanwan (pseudonym), a Chinese tourist from Sichuan Province, experienced a terrifying moment when a 7.8 magnitude earthquake struck Turkey in the early hours of the morning, according to TheHour.

"The bed was shaking, things were trembling and the lights were swaying with the rope like a clock," she said.

It was snowing heavily in the city of Mardin for the past two days, and the roads were slippery. Wanwan recalled her experience during the 2008 Wenchuan earthquake in Dujiangyan, and her first thought was that a landslide might happen in this mountainous city.

Wanwan was staying in a traditional Turkish house made of rocks. As it is on the ground floor, it is just like a bomb shelter. Despite this, she was too scared to sleep and stayed awake until 9:00 am.

After checking the news, Wanwan found out that the epicenter of the earthquake was only a couple of hundred kilometers away. Her friends in Syria sent her videos and photos there, which was much worse than where she was.

At 6:24 pm Beijing time on February 6, another 7.8 magnitude earthquake hit Turkey. However, Wanwan was too exhausted to notice.

Wanwan arrived in Turkey from Iraq on February 1, and this was her second visit to the country. She had originally planned to visit the nearby town of Şanlıurfa, but now she just wanted to get to a safe place. Fortunately, the snow had stopped, so she decided to go to the station and see if she could get a ride out of the earthquake zone.
