China's Ministry of Education has announced its latest evaluation results of the country's academic degree conferring institutions.

Degree conferring institutions that were given a deadline for rectification should conduct a two-year overhaul before re-evaluation, the ministry said in a statement, adding that they should halt their student recruitment after this year's work is finished.

The institutions which have passed the re-evaluation will be qualified to resume recruitment, while institutions failed to pass the re-evaluation will have their qualifications revoked.

Institutions that have failed the evaluation or voluntarily given up their programs will no longer be qualified to confer academic degrees. Their student recruitment will also be halted after this year's work is finished and applications for new qualification are banned within five years.

Academic degree conferring institutions refer to universities or scientific research institutions that are authorized to confer academic degrees, including bachelor, master and doctor degrees.
