A new cargo flight service was launched Monday, linking Xi'an, capital of northwest China's Shaanxi Province, with Germany.

The Boeing 747 flight, carrying around 100 tonnes of electronic and machinery products, departed Xi'an for Frankfurt-Hahn airport in the German state of Rhineland-Palatinate.

The route is operated by China-based Suparna Airlines and is scheduled to fly once a week.

Xi'an is an important point on the Silk Road that connects China with other parts of the world.

The city has already launched cargo flight service to Amsterdam and several China-Europe freight trains link it with Warsaw, Hamburg, and Moscow.
