The Malaysia National Pavilion project Signing Ceremony

CHENGDU, Aug. 14 (NBD) -- Combined with economy, culture, education, travel, showcase, investment as well as services, a Malaysian both-way comprehensive platform, the first of its kind which has even been set up in China, was introduced in Chengdu, capital of the country's southwest Sichuan Province.

The Malaysia National Pavilion project Signing Ceremony between the People's Government of Chengdu's Shuangliu District and Malaysia External Trade Development Corporation, was held here on Monday. The Pavilion will be hosted at the Shuangliu section of China (Sichuan) Pilot Free Trade Zone (FTZ), covering an area of 2,000 square meters.

It expects to offer preferential prices of goods, maximum 30% lower when compared with the price of regular imported goods, after it was built up and put into operation three months later.

Four Malaysian giant food makers including PPIPBM have also signed agreements to become the first batch of enterprises operating at the pavilion at the signing ceremony.

Invited by Chengdu Municipal Agriculture Committee, Malaysia on the same day accepted the invitation as the guest country for the sixth Chengdu International Urban Modern Agriculture Expo which will be held next year.

The China (Sichuan) Pilot FTZ was formally established this April. The zone consists of two parts: Chengdu in western Sichuan and Luzhou in southern Sichuan.

The Sichuan FTZ covers nearly 120 square kilometers, with 100 sq km in Chengdu and the rest in Luzhou. Of the Chengdu part, more than 34 square kilometer is in the Shuangliu district.

As an inland province known for its inaccessibility in ancient times, Sichuan now outstrips any other region in western China in terms of foreign investment, and most of the world's Fortune 500 firms have set up offices in Sichuan.
