CHENGDU, Feb. 21 (NBD) -- The number of Chinese travellers who chose self-guided short-term tours in 2016 rised 230% on a year-on-year basis, according to the Report on Self-Guided Short-Term Tours in 2016 released by lvmama.com.
The majority of short-term travellers were aged between 27 and 37, also known as the post-80s generation, accounting for more than 60% of the total.
There was also an obvious trend that people started to make fully use of their fragmented time for travelling, they prefered the mid-week or weekends rather than the traditional Chinese holidays which last from 3 to 7 days. Self-driving tours, family tours, country tours and cultural tours were sought-after, according to the report.
The Chinese metropolises such as Guangzhou, Shanghai, Hangzhou, Beijing, Suzhou and their adjacent areas were among the hot destinations, some other not so well-known cities were also emerging as popular spots.
The report also revealed that exquisite homestays and other boutique hotels are becoming more and more popular among travellers, high-end resorts and hotels become key factors when choose where to go.
