CHENGDU, Feb.15 (NBD) -- Recently, citizens in Beijing found that luxury cigarettes staged a comeback. Reporters of Morning Post noticed some cigarettes are priced at 4,000 yuan (581 US dollars) a carton, which is far beyond the ceiling price of 1,000 yuan imposed by Beijing Municipal government. Some are sold even 9 times higher than before.
Is the limit order still effective? Bearing this doubt in mind, reporters visited 10 stores. Many shop owners say that high-priced cigarettes have a ready market, especially during the Spring Festival. But they refused to reveal how they get those cigarettes.
Workers of China Tobaco (Beijing) reminded citizens that they can report the irregularities if the license number on each carton are not identical with that held by tobacco retailers.
