
CHENGDU, Feb. 15 (NBD) -- Indian online healthcare firm Practo has recently raised 55 million US dollars in the fourth round of funding led by Chinese internet firm Tencent, which marks the latest movement of Chinese investment towards India.
Over the past two years, Chinese investment toward India showed spike both from the numbers of Chinese enterprises and the investment volume. Benefiting from the Indian government's series of economic improvement measures such as "Made in India", and Chinese economic transition and upgrade, the world's two most populous countries' economic strategies are getting closer and closer.
An open land, some 20 km away from Ahmedabad, Gujarat state, is selected as the site for the Industrial Park for Chinese SMEs, and the construction is expected to start this year.
Zhang Xiuge, General Manager of the Industrial Park for Chinese SMEs Development Co., Ltd, introduced that the park, led by China Association of Small and Medium Enterprises, is one of the key projects under the "Belt and Road" Initiative.
The project, launched in June, 2016, covering an area of 5 square kilometers with an total investment of 1.4 billion US dollars. It is estimated to be put into use in 2018, creating an output worth 5 billion US dollar per year.
In fact, Chinese companies' investment toward India is grown stably in electricity, steel and iron, energy and infrastructure fields.
Early in 2016, Wanda Group announced it would develop a world-class comprehensive industrial park known as “Wanda Industrial New City” with a total investment value of 10 billion US dollars.
China's heavy equipment major Sany group has committed to invest 4 billion US dollars for setting up manufacturing units and wind farms in India, according to India's Economic Times' report.
Li Baijun, Commercial and Economic Counsellor, Embassy of China in India, said that India has become a sought-after land for Chinese enterprises' investment outside China.
Data shows in 2016, China's investment toward India reached 1.06 billion US dollars, 6 times more than in 2015. The total Chinese investment in India accumulated to more than 4.8 billion US dollars by end of 2016.
