CHENGDU, Jan. 24 (NBD) -- Frank Eggmann, Consul General of Switzerland in Chengdu, advocated a "personal" go-green year ahead of the Chinese Spring Festival which will kick off on coming Friday.

"Let's try to cut down the wrapping of presents, there is to much paper-waste create for nothing. 2017 should be our "personal" go-green year", Mr. Consul General said in an exclusive interview with NBD regarding to the Chinese lunar new year.

Apart from adhering to the Swiss heart-rooted philosophy of low-carbon and environmental protection, Mr. Eggmann also treasure family values. He accentuated that the celebration of Chinese new year is all about family, therefore, he said "I shall enjoy the Spring Festival quietly together with my beloved in our new home."

Established on Nov. 30, 2016, the Chengdu-based consulate general is Switzerland's fifth official representation in China, in addition to the embassy in Beijing and the consulates general in Shanghai, Guangzhou and Hong Kong. 

Mr. Eggmann had worked in Hong Kong before came to Chinese mainland, when asking are there any differences between Chengdu and Hong Kong when people preparing the new year, he answered that Hong Kong being such a cosmopolitan city, the spirit of New Year is less felt than in Chengdu which upholds its traditions.

"We are lucky to be surrounded by local Sichuan friends and will certainly have fun moments with them as well", the Consul General added.

Mr. Eggmann also sent his best wishes to the Chinese people. "With my best wishes for a healthy, 'FUN-tastic' and happy New Year!"
