CHENGDU, Jan. 9 (NBD) -- Shenzhen expects to build 6.62 million square meters of public rental housing for talents and low-income housing during the 13th five-year plan period, an increase of 133% over the 12th five-year plan period.

Of those, roughly 3 million square meters will be constructed by 2020 through the renewal and transformation of eligible old industrial parks.

The Urban Planning, Land & Resources Commission of Shenzhen Municipality made the statements at a media briefing last Thursday.

According to Shenzhen's new version of the Temporary Measures for the Enhancing of the Implementation of Urban Renewal, the city will promote the construction of low-income housing in every way.
