CHENGDU, Dec. 21 (NBD) -- China will facilitate eco-agriculture to improve productivity and competitiveness, according to a central rural work conference held in Beijing on Monday and Tuesday.
The two-day conference stressed that supply-side structural reform in agriculture should be conducted while ensuring the country's grain safety.
China will reduce its excessive reliance on resource consumption and promote a shift towards creating a sustainable, green ecosystem and meeting the demand of quality from simply satisfying the needs of quantity while developing the agricultural industry and rural areas.
Prior to the conference, Chinese President Xi Jinping delivered a speech about the work relating to the countryside, agriculture and farmers at a meeting of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
Mr. Xi said that China will insist on new development philosophies and focus on supply-side structural reform in agriculture when promoting agriculture and rural work.
The country, meanwhile, will seek new growth engines to boost agriculture and the rural development and to increase comprehensive benefits and competitiveness of agriculture, Xi added.
