
CHENGDU, Dec. 1 (NBD) -- Bullet train has become China's appealing national business card, which reveals the rapid rise of China’s rail transport industry. And in this course, Zhuzhou stands out as a global industrial star.
Zhuzhou, with a population of 4.05 million, is central China's Hunan province's second largest city after Changsha.
Newly released data showed that electric and locomotive products of Zhuzhou takes up 27% of world’s market share, ranking first. Therefore, Zhuzhou has long been known as the “industrial base for high-speed rail diplomacy”.
According to Zhuzhou official disclosure, Zhuzhou last year became the first rail transport industrial cluster with a production exceeding 100 bln yuan (about 14.5 bln dollars) in China. It emerged as the biggest manufacturing and export base of rail transport equipment in China. Zhuzhou, being well equipped, declared its ambition to emerge as “China’s Power Valley”.
In an interview, Fu Zhihuan, the former Minister of China’s Railways and academician of China Engineering Academy said it is possible for Zhuzhou to build a electric traction center or a rail transport industrial hub of global competitiveness, considering the world’s unfolding rail transport construction.
The rail transport industry in Zhuzhou is estimated to surpass 200 bln yuan (about 29 bln dollars) by 2020. The products extend to almost all sectors of this industry. The local matching rate exceeds 70% with a complete industrial chain covering R&D, manufacturing, after-sales service and logistics.
He Jianbo, the executive vice mayor of People’s Government of Zhuzhou, introduced that Zhuzhou is home to over 320 rail transport equipment manufacturing enterprises, 62 of them above designated size. He added, “over 10 thousand technical talents of rail transport industry gather here in Zhuzhou. And all academicians of China Engineering Academy specializing in rail transport are making contributions here.”
