CHENGDU, NOV. 23 (NBD) -- Southwest China's Sichuan province on Tuesday released a planning outline of Airport Economic Zone for Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, the provincial capital's second International Airport after Chengdu Shuangliu International Airport.

According to the Outline published on the local government's website, the airport economic zone consists of parts of Chengdu city and parts of Ziyang city (Chengdu's affliated prefecture-level city), covering a gross area of 298 square kilometers as designed. An initial area of 35 square kilometers is supposed to be in place by 2020.

The airport economic zone was also designed as a modern airport-related industry system that is high-end, international, and unique, a transportation system that is of efficient connection, smooth linking and comprehensive function as well as a portal in global interaction.

Cao Yunchun, director of Airport Economy Research Institute under Civil Aviation University of China, pointed out that “logistics industry, a free trade zone, luxurious residential areas and high-end technology industry parks are essentials of the airport economy which contribute to economic development.” Cao is also known as “the pioneer in the field of Chinese airport economy.” 

In fact, high-end manufacturing and modern services are recently under development around airports to actualize the transformation and upgrading of urban industries in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou.

The airport economy zone for Chengdu Tianfu International Airport, with which Chengdu will be the third Chinese metropolis with two airports after Beijing and Shanghai, is estimated to undoubtedly add fresh impetus to the growth of Sichuan economy in the future. Enditem
