On April 26, BMW Group announced plans to invest an additional 20 billion yuan in its Shenyang production base. This investment focuses on a major upgrade and technological innovation at the Dadong factory, which is the birthplace of BMW’s production in China. This sets the foundation for the localization of BMW’s “Neue Klasse” models starting in 2026.

The “Neue Klasse” is not just a single car but marks the beginning of the next generation of BMW’s new product series. The main building of this project was completed in Shenyang last November, with plans to finish equipment installation within the year and to commence operations in 2026.

Since 2010, BMW’s cumulative investment in the Shenyang production base has reached 105 billion yuan. Since 2019, the Shenyang production base has been using 100% renewable electricity. It has also established a comprehensive wastewater treatment system, achieving a closed-loop water resource management. In collaboration with local partners, BMW has implemented a closed-loop recycling of raw materials for domestically produced electric vehicle batteries, effectively reducing carbon emissions from mineral resource extraction by 70%.

BMW Group states that it will hold true to its commitment of “ "At Home in China" .” With increasing investments and continuous upgrades to the production base, BMW aims to further contribute to the new quality of productivity in China’s automotive industry.
