June 28 (NBD) -- Chinese electric car manufacturer BYD Co Ltd (002594.SZ) started production at its new battery plant in northwest China's Qinghai Province on Wednesday. The unit will become the world's largest power battery plant after it achieves full annual capacity of 24GWh in 2019.

BYD expects to have a total annual battery capacity of 60GWh by 2020.
