(NBD) Sept. 5 -- There is ample room for growth for Chinese companies in Brazil, Ge Junjie, chairman of Hunan Dakang International Food & Agriculture Co., Ltd., told National Business Daily in a recent exclusive interview.

According to a Xinhua report, economic aggregate of BRICS countries now accounts for 23 percent of the world's total, up from 12 percent a decade ago, contributing more than 50 percent of global economic growth.

China and Brazil, the largest developing countries in the west and east hemispheres, respectively, are expected to deepen cooperation in the future.

Ge said that while Chinese companies are exploring opportunities in Brazil, many agricultural and food companies from the South American country are reaching out to Chinese consumers.

During BRICS Summit in Xiamen, southeast China's Fujian Province, Chinese firms will gain a better understanding of the Brazilian market, which will accordingly improve the trade and investment relations between the two countries, he added.

Hunan Dakang, for example, will leverage opportunities brought by the summit to reinforce the trade with the South American country's grain, agriculture, and food enterprises.

The company has made inroads into Brazil through the acquisition of the local grain company Fiagril Participações SA, and is currently under the process of purchasing agricultural marketing platform Belagri.

With regard to trade facilitation, Ge hopes that China's Ministry of Commerce, National Development and Reform Commission, and Ministry of Agriculture can work together with the governments of other BRICS nations to come up with a cooperative mechanism, so as to improve the communication and exchange among enterprises in BRICS countries.

He also highlights the importance of policies that can help Chinese companies tap deep into some specific industries in other BRICS nations in a transparent and feasible way.

Furthermore, he calls for a platform for investment and business negotiations.

At present, China and Brazil have many meeting communication mechanisms, which are beneficial to facilitate the mutual communication and understanding, he noted.
