CHENGDU, Aug. 7 (NBD) -- The Chinese blockbuster "Wolf Warrior 2" is expected to become the highest-grossing Chinese film of all time within this week as it reached 3 billion yuan (about 446.2 million U.S. dollars) last Sunday.

"Wolf Warrior 2" tells a story of a former Chinese special forces soldier's heroism of rescuing his compatriots and African friends in Africa's war-torn regions occupied by insurgents and mercenaries.

Released on July 27th, the Chinese action film has broken numerous box office records. It recorded 100 million yuan (about 14.9 million U.S. dollars) in four hours and hit 1 billion yuan (about 148.7 million U.S. dollars) within 85 hours, 7 hours less than the previous 92-hour-record held by the 2016 Chinese–Hong Kong fantasy romantic comedy-drama film The Mermaid. 

It set a new record for exceeding 200 million yuan (about 29.7 million U.S. dollars) for a single day gross for 10 consecutive days,and the fastest film to reach 2 billion yuan (about 297.5 million U.S. dollars) in box office within 8 days of release. Through its eleven-day since release, it grossed a total of 3 billion yuan (about 446.2 million U.S. dollars).

Business insiders estimate that "Wolf Warrior 2" might gross more than 4 billion yuan (about 595 million U.S. dollars) or even greater.
