As of June 2017, the number of China's internet users climbed to 751 million, accounting for 20% of global internet users, according to a report released by the China Internet Network Information Center.
"Statistical Report on Internet Development in China" (the Report) shows that the internet penetration rate in China has reached 54.3% as of June 2017, 4.6% above the global average. The digital technology represented by the Internet is on the fast track to integrate with various socioeconomic sectors and becoming an important driving force for consumption upgrading, economic and social transformation and national competitiveness construction.
As of June 2017, China has 724 million mobile internet users, 28.3 million more compared with late 2016, said the Report. Mobile internet users took increasingly larger proportion in national total, among which the number of users of takeout applications grew 41.4% compared with that at the end of 2016.
The Report also indicates that the user scale in subdivisions of public services is also on the rise. The number of internet users of online education, ride-hailing taxies & cars, and bike-sharing applications has hit 144 million, 495 million and 106 million, respectively.
