The University of Chinese Academy of Social Sciences (CASS) will begin its first-ever enrollment this year, Cai Fang, member of NPC Standing Committee and Vice President of CASS revealed on Tuesday.

Cai said the undergraduate's first enrollment will be no more than 1,000 students. He added that the undergraduate schools of China Youth University of Political Studies (CYUPS) will be gradually merged into the University of CASS, while the graduate school and the Central School of China Communist Youth League (CCYL) will be kept inside CYUPS.

The Vice President introduced that the merge means part of the faculty from CYUPS will be transferred to the University of CASS.

CASS is the premier academic organization and comprehensive research center of China in the fields of philosophy and social sciences.

Established in May 1977, CASS is now made up of 31 research institutes and 45 research centers, which carry out research activities covering nearly 300 sub-disciplines. At present, CASS has more than 4,200 staff members in total, of which more than 3,200 are professional researchers.

CYUPS is established in December of 1985 on the basis of CCYL. It is an institute of higher education affiliated with the Central Committee of China Communist Youth League.
