CHENGDU, Jan. 19 (NBD) -- China's oil output will surpass 200 million tonnes by 2020, according to the 13th five-year plans for the development of petroleum and natural gas released by the National Development and Reform Commission.

A diversified petroleum supply safety system under open conditions will be built to guarantee the country's estimated oil demand at 590 million tonnes by then.

During the 2016-2020 period, 1 trillion cubic meters of proven geological reserves of shale gas will be added to push the total to 1.5 trillion cubic meters.

Moreover, work will be done to improve the residential natural gas pricing mechanism, and eligible enterprises will be allowed to import natural gas.
