CHENGDU, Jan.11 (NBD) -- For singles in China, the idea of celebrating the Lunar New Year is likely to be quashed again by parents and other family members, questioning and squabbling about why they are still riding solo. It is reported that most singles in China will be busy going on blind dates during the 7-day- holiday.

A survey conducted by a Chinese dating website shows that 60% of unattached women and 50% unattached men are pressured by their parents to marry. Among them, singles in southeast China's Jiangxi province are faced with the greatest pressure from their parents.

In terms of mate selection, standards vary for different genders at different age. For post-90s girls, appearance is not a very big concern for them. While for men, the older they are, the appearance of their life partners matter more.

"Narrow-minded" tops the list of unbearable characters of a partner for both man and woman. Girls who are money worshipping, willful, and disrespect for elders are most unwanted. While men who are stingy, girlish and boasters are least likely to win girls' favor.

Statistics also show that the best dream lover for girls is 33-year old bachelor who should be 175-180cm tall, able to earn 20,000 yuan (about 2,889 US dollars) per month, and have Beijing hukou (household registration) as well. Of the 2,151,000 men registered on jiayuan.com, only 295 can meet the standards above.
