CHENGDU, Dec. 23 (NBD) -- China's draft law on e-commerce stipulates that e-commerce companies shall ensure the safety of e-commerce information via advanced technologies to prevent accurate scam.

After three years of preparation, the draft was submitted on Monday for the first reading to the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress. It includes contents like operating entities of e-commerce, transactions and services, transaction guarantee, cross-border e-commerce, supervision and management, and legal liability.

According to the new regulation, in case of any personal information breach, loss, or corruption, e-commerce companies shall take remediation measures as soon as possible in addition to informing users or reporting to the regulator.

Ala Musi, vice director of the Policy and Law Committee of the China E-commerce Association, told NBD that the draft specifies contents of personal privacy protection and guarantees necessary data usage, striking a balance between data protection and mining.

Public opinions will be solicited for the draft following the deliberation.
