CHENGDU, Dec. 23 (NBD) -- Following Pearl River Delta and Yangtze River Delta, national urban agglomerations including Beijing-Tianjin-Hebei Region, the Middle Reaches of the Yangtze River and Chengyugui are taking shape.
Ni Pengfei, the officer of Chinese Academy of Social Science’s City and Competitiveness research center, said multi-centers would accelerate urban agglomeration entering into advanced level.
With different resources and history background, five above-mentioned urban agglomerations have a great difference in developing positions and ideas. In particular, Chengyugui urban agglomeration is transforming from factor-driven to innovation-driven mode.
In June, National Development and Reform Commission and Ministry of Housing and Urban-Rural Development jointly published “Yangtze River Delta city agglomeration plan”. In particular, as the leading city of the delta, Shanghai released “Shanghai city planning (2016~2040)” as well and is positioned as global metropolis.
According to the plan, Yangtze River Delta is to be built as a global city agglomeration. Its aim is to participate in international cooperation and competition and play a leading role in supporting national economic society development.
According to Ni, Chengyugui city agglomeration is likely to become the fourth increasing pole as it is the key junction of “One Belt and One Road” initiative, crucial point of the integration of Europe and Asia, center of Yangtze River Economic Zone’s upper reaches, comprehensive center of south-west region and strategic depth of south-western China.
