According to media reports, TAL Education (formerly known as Xueersi), a leading off-campus training company, is restarting large-scale offline enrollment.
It is claimed the company has included superior education and extra-curricular content training under the guise of so-called "quality courses", running counter to the national "double reduction" policy.
At TAL's on-site teaching sites in Beijing, Shanghai and other cities, reporters saw that many parents came to inquire about enrolling in classes on weekends and the rest area was also full of parents waiting for their children to finish class.
"It's called 'quality courses' but what we parents value most is still the improvement of our children's ability in Chinese, English and math," a parent at a teaching site in Beijing told reporters.
However, on the same day, TAL Education issued a statement stating that it doesn't "restart large-scale offline enrollment".
The company stressed that it firmly supports and deeply implements various requirements of the central government's "double reduction" spirit and policies, and their off-campus subject training business for students receiving compulsory education has been suspended in mainland China since December 31st, 2021.
As for the issues disclosed in media report, the company attaches great importance and immediately initiates internal investigation.
Moreover, TAL said that since the launch of quality-oriented training courses, the company has been enrolling students according to regulations, so there is no so-called "restart of large-scale offline enrollment".
